COPELAND BY-ELECTION

Thursday 23rd February is also the date of another Westminster by-election, in Copeland in Cumbria.

This is another Labour seat, vacated by Jamie Reid, who is leaving Parliament for a cushy job with the nuclear industry. Tristram Hunt in Stoke is similarly departing the hallowed halls of Westminster to become curator at the V & A Museum. Knowing that Labour is not likely to be back in power nationally for years and years (if ever!), these guys are like rats leaving a sinking ship.

Ukip’s candidate in Copeland is Fiona Mills, a Cumbrian member who was recently elected to the National Executive Committee (NEC).
